Why are some local fares so low?
Short local runs to Gatwick from towns like Crawley, Horley, Redhill and Reigate have fixed local prices rather than being charged purely by distance.
We are based in Reigate, a few miles from the airport, so these are our home routes. Our drivers are nearby, which keeps the cost down. The local fares also include the drop-off charge, which some firms add on top.
How can I get a cheaper taxi to Gatwick?
Share the car, pick the right vehicle size, book a return, and compare the total with parking. Never pay for a bigger car than you need.
- Share the fare. The price is per vehicle, not per person. Four people in an estate from Croydon pay about £20 each.
- Choose the right size. A saloon takes three people and three large cases. If that fits, there is no need for an estate.
- Book the return at the same time. The booking form shows any return discount automatically.
- Check the full price. Our fares include the airport charge. A lower quote elsewhere may add it later.
- Avoid surge times with app cabs. Early mornings, late nights and bad weather push app prices up. Our fare stays the same.
Is a cheap Gatwick taxi still safe and reliable?
Yes. All Esskay Cars drivers are licensed private hire drivers, insured and DBS-checked, whatever the fare.
The car is booked in advance, so you are not waiting for someone to accept the job. On pickups, we track your flight and meet you inside arrivals. Our meet and greet guide explains how it works.
Is a taxi cheaper than parking at Gatwick?
For trips of more than a few days, two taxi fares from nearby towns are usually much cheaper than Gatwick parking.
From Reigate, a return trip in a saloon costs about £74, which is less than most week-long parking bookings, especially in school holidays. You also avoid the shuttle bus from the car park. From Crawley or Horley, the difference is even bigger.
Is the train cheaper than a taxi to Gatwick?
For one person near a station with light bags, the train is cheaper. For two or more people, or with luggage, the taxi is often close in cost per head.
Train tickets are per person, while a taxi is per car. For a family of four from Croydon, four train tickets plus getting to the station can come close to £79 for an estate from your door.
What is the cheapest way to get a group to Gatwick?
Book one larger vehicle. An 8-seater minivan or minibus costs far less per person than several cars.
An 8-seater minivan from Croydon is £118, which is about £15 each for eight people. A 16-seater minibus from Victoria is £364, under £23 each when full. See our 8-seater taxi to Gatwick page.
Is it cheaper to book in advance?
The fare is the same whenever you book, but booking ahead guarantees a car at the time you want, especially for early flights.
Unlike app-based cabs, our prices do not rise when demand is high. Booking early simply means your driver is confirmed. Early-morning slots in the school holidays are the first to fill up.
How much is a cheap taxi from Gatwick on arrival?
The same as the outward fare. A saloon from Gatwick to Crawley is £33, to Redhill £36 and to Reigate £37.
The driver meets you inside arrivals with a name sign, and we track your flight, so a delay does not add to the cost. That is often cheaper and easier than queuing at the taxi rank after a long flight.
What are the cheapest fares from the coast and Kent?
From Brighton, a saloon is about £65. From Sevenoaks it is about £61, and from Worthing about £95.
These longer routes have fixed fares too, and shared between four people they are often less per head than the train. See our Brighton, Sevenoaks and Worthing to Gatwick pages for full fare tables.
Are cheap Gatwick taxis good for students?
Yes. Students heading home at the end of term can share an estate or people carrier and split the fixed fare.
An estate holds four large cases. Two or three friends on the same morning can share one car. That is usually cheaper than separate train tickets, and much easier with a term’s worth of luggage.
Are there any extra charges?
No. The price in the booking form is the full fare.
It includes the Gatwick drop-off or parking charge, meet and greet for pickups, flight tracking and help with luggage. There is no night surcharge and no fee for a delayed flight. Extra stops on the way can be added in the form, and a small fee applies for each one.
Is it cheaper to go to the North or South Terminal?
For most local routes, the price is the same to both terminals. For a few longer routes, the South Terminal is a pound or two cheaper because it is closer by road.
Choose the terminal your airline uses. The booking form shows the exact fare for each. If you are not sure which terminal you need, check your booking confirmation or the airline app before you travel.
Do you offer cheap taxis to Heathrow too?
Yes. See our cheap Heathrow taxi page for the lowest fares to Heathrow.
From our area, Heathrow costs more than Gatwick because it is further away, but a saloon from Reigate is still only £73. See our cheap Heathrow taxi and Heathrow taxi prices pages.
How do I get the price for my address?
Enter your pickup address and Gatwick in the booking form at the top of this page. It shows the fixed fare for every vehicle in seconds.
You can then book online, or call 0207 8400 344 or WhatsApp 020 3355 8186. For full fare tables, see our Gatwick airport taxi fares page and the main Gatwick airport taxi page.
