Why are some Heathrow fares lower than others?
Fares depend mainly on distance and drive time, and some short local routes have fixed local prices.
Places close to the airport, such as Slough, Hounslow, Staines and Windsor, are the cheapest, at £39 to £46. Central London fares vary by area. Kensington and Chelsea are on the airport side of the city and cost less than the City or King’s Cross, which mean a longer drive through traffic. Fares from Surrey and Berkshire are usually lower than the same distance into central London, because most of the drive is on motorways.
Is the Heathrow drop-off charge included in the price?
Yes. Heathrow charges £7 for the terminal drop-off, and that, or the parking charge for pickups, is already in our fare.
Some firms quote a lower price and add the airport charge at the end. With Esskay Cars, the price you see in the booking form is the full price. Our airport drop-off charges guide explains how the charges work at each London airport.
How much is a taxi from Heathrow to central London?
From £64 to Kensington, £69 to Paddington and £73 to Victoria in a saloon.
Coming from Heathrow into London costs the same as going out. The driver meets you inside arrivals with a name sign and tracks your flight, so a delay costs you nothing. Read more on our Heathrow to London taxi page.
How long does a taxi to Heathrow take?
From central London, allow 45 to 75 minutes. From most of Surrey and Berkshire, allow 30 to 60 minutes.
| From | Typical off-peak time | Rush hour |
|---|---|---|
| Victoria | 45 to 60 minutes | 60 to 90 minutes |
| City of London | 55 to 70 minutes | 75 to 100 minutes |
| Kensington | 35 to 45 minutes | 50 to 70 minutes |
| Reigate | 40 to 50 minutes | 55 to 75 minutes |
| Woking | 30 to 40 minutes | 45 to 60 minutes |
| Reading | 35 to 45 minutes | 50 to 70 minutes |
| Oxford | 60 to 75 minutes | 80 to 100 minutes |
| Brighton | 1 hour 30 minutes | up to 2 hours |
The fare is fixed, so a slow journey does not cost more. For long-haul flights, plan to arrive at Heathrow at least three hours before departure.
Which vehicle should I book?
Book a saloon for up to three people with three cases, an estate for four with four cases, and a people carrier for six.
- Saloon: 3 passengers, 3 large cases.
- Estate: 4 passengers, 4 large cases. This is the best choice for most families.
- Executive: a Mercedes E-Class or similar for business trips.
- People carrier: 6 passengers, 5 large cases.
- 8-seater minivan: 8 passengers, 8 large cases.
- 12 and 16-seater minibuses: for groups.
For groups, see our 8-seater taxi to Heathrow page.
What does the price include?
Every fare includes the vehicle, the driver, the Heathrow charge, meet and greet for pickups, flight tracking and help with luggage.
There is no extra charge for meet and greet, no surcharge for night journeys and no fee for flight delays on pickups. You can add stops in the booking form, and a small fee applies for each extra stop.
How much does a taxi to Heathrow cost per person?
Split between passengers, a Heathrow taxi often costs less per person than the train or coach.
Four people in an estate from central London pay about £21 each. Six people in a people carrier from Reading pay about £16 each. Sixteen people in a minibus from Croydon pay under £23 each. A fixed fare also means no extra cost if the motorway is slow.
Is a taxi cheaper than parking at Heathrow?
For trips of more than a few days, two taxi fares are often cheaper than Heathrow parking.
Heathrow’s car parks charge by the day, and prices rise sharply in the school holidays. From most places within 30 miles, two fixed taxi fares cost less than a week of parking, with no bus from the car park and no drive home after a long flight.
Can I get a price for an address that is not listed?
Yes. Type any UK address or postcode into the booking form, and it shows a fixed price for every vehicle in seconds.
The form works out the fare from the exact route, using our fixed local prices where they apply, so you see the real price for your door, not a range. If you have an extra stop on the way, such as collecting a friend, add it in the form and the price updates.
