Esskay Cars runs taxis from Heathrow to Horley from £87 in a saloon. The fare is fixed for the whole car, with the airport charges included. Horley sits on the northern edge of Gatwick, so most people think of it as a Gatwick town. But many people who live or stay here fly from Heathrow too, especially on long-haul routes that Gatwick does not serve. We cover both airports from our base in nearby Reigate.
The people we drive on this route include Horley residents coming home from long-haul trips, airline and airport staff travelling between the two airports, and guests at the big Gatwick hotels on the Horley side who have landed at Heathrow. Families visiting relatives in the town make the trip too. There is no direct public transport from Heathrow to Horley, so a car is the simplest option.

Journey time and route
Horley is about 40 miles from Heathrow. The route goes round the M25 to Junction 7, down the M23 to Junction 9, and into Horley on the A23 or the Airport Way and Longbridge roundabout.
| When you travel | Typical journey time |
|---|---|
| Early morning or late evening | 45 to 50 minutes |
| Weekday off-peak | 50 to 60 minutes |
| Weekday rush hour | 70 to 90 minutes |
| Friday afternoon | Up to 1 hour 45 minutes |
The busiest part is the M25 between the M3 and M23 junctions. Around Gatwick itself, traffic is usually light outside the morning departure rush. If the M23 is closed, drivers can use the A217 through Reigate or the A23 through Redhill, and the fare stays the same.

Flying from Gatwick instead?
If your flight is from Gatwick, Horley is only five to ten minutes from the terminals, and the fare is much lower. See our Horley to Gatwick taxi page. For a transfer straight between the two airports, our Heathrow to Gatwick taxi is £87 in a saloon.
Airline and airport staff
Horley has a large population of people working at Gatwick. Crew and staff sometimes need to get to Heathrow for positioning flights, training or a change of base. Early report times and irregular hours are no problem, and the fare does not change at night or at weekends. If you travel often, ask about booking a regular slot.
Long-haul trips from Horley
Gatwick covers a lot of destinations, but many long-haul routes to North America, Asia and the Middle East only fly from Heathrow. That is why many Horley households, despite living next to Gatwick, still need a Heathrow car a few times a year. For long-haul flights, leave enough time for the bigger check-in queues at Heathrow’s Terminals 3 and 5, and for the M25. We suggest leaving at least three and a half hours before departure.
Visiting family in Horley
If you have relatives flying in to visit you, we can book the car in their name and meet them in Heathrow arrivals. Give us the passenger’s name, their flight number and a mobile number they can be reached on. The driver will bring them to your door, and you will get the booking confirmation, so you know it is arranged.
Late arrivals
A lot of Heathrow arrivals land early in the morning after overnight flights. At that time of day, a train home would mean a long journey through London. With a pre-booked car, the driver is already in arrivals when you come through, and you are home in under an hour on quiet roads.
Children and extra luggage
Tell us when you book if you are travelling with children, pushchairs, car seats or sports equipment, and we will make sure the car has room. An estate is the best choice for a family of four with suitcases. A people carrier suits larger families or two couples travelling together.
Choosing a vehicle
- Saloon: three passengers and three large cases, at £87.
- Estate: four passengers and four cases, at £100.
- Executive: a Mercedes E-Class or similar, at £116.
- People carrier: six passengers and five cases, at £116.
- 8-seater minivan: eight passengers and eight cases, at £129.
Taxi, coach or train?
There is no direct train from Horley to Heathrow. By rail, you would go into London and come back out, which takes around two hours. Coaches run from Gatwick to Heathrow. You would need to get from Horley to the Gatwick coach station first, and then wait for a timetabled departure. For anyone with luggage or a deadline, a door-to-door car is the easier choice.
Parking or a taxi?
Some Horley residents drive to Heathrow and park. That means the M25 both ways, plus a week of airport parking, a bus from the car park and a long drive home after a long flight. Two fixed fares, with the airport charges included, often cost the same or less once parking is added up. You also get to rest on the way home instead of driving.
