Esskay Cars runs taxis from Shoreditch to Gatwick from £115 in a saloon. The fare is fixed for the whole car, and the Gatwick drop-off charge is already included. We pick you up from your flat, hotel or office in Shoreditch, Hoxton or the City fringe and drop you outside departures at the North or South Terminal. The return from Gatwick to Shoreditch is the same price.
Shoreditch is one of the liveliest parts of London, full of tech companies, creative studios, bars and hotels. Many people who live and work here do not own a car, and a lot of flights from Gatwick leave early in the morning or land late at night. A pre-booked car with a fixed price takes care of both, without surge pricing and without dragging a suitcase to the station.

Route and journey time
Shoreditch is about 32 miles from Gatwick. The driver heads south through the City, crosses the river at London Bridge or Tower Bridge, and goes through south London on the A3 and A23 via Kennington, Brixton, Streatham and Croydon, joining the M23 at Hooley. When south London is jammed, the eastern route via the Blackwall Tunnel, the A2 and the M25 can be quicker.
| When you travel | Typical journey time |
|---|---|
| Early morning (before 6am) | 50 to 60 minutes |
| Weekday off-peak | 70 to 80 minutes |
| Weekday rush hour | 90 minutes to 2 hours |
| Friday evening | Up to 2 hours |
Roadworks in central London change often, and traffic around the City can build quickly after events. The driver checks live traffic before setting off and picks the best route. On the way back from Gatwick, the same applies in reverse.

Late-night and early-morning flights
A lot of Gatwick flights leave before the trains from London Bridge and Victoria start running, or land after the Tube has stopped. A pre-booked car with a fixed price avoids surge pricing at those times. For a 6am flight with checked bags, a pickup around 2:45am is sensible. The fare is the same at night as during the day.
Taxi or train?
By public transport, you would take the Overground or Northern line to London Bridge, or walk to Liverpool Street and change. From there, Thameslink and Southern trains run to Gatwick. It takes around an hour and a quarter with changes, and longer at night. For one person with a small bag at a sensible hour, the train is cheaper. For two or more people, early flights, or a lot of luggage, the car is usually the better choice.
Tech and creative businesses
Shoreditch and Old Street are home to hundreds of tech companies, agencies and studios, and staff fly out regularly for meetings, conferences and trade shows across Europe. The executive saloon, a Mercedes E-Class or similar, is £149 for a quiet ride to the airport. Companies can also book cars for visiting colleagues arriving at Gatwick. Give us the visitor’s name and flight, and the driver will meet them in arrivals.
Hotel and Airbnb pickups
Shoreditch has a lot of boutique hotels, aparthotels and short-let flats. Give us the hotel name or exact address, including any building or flat entrance details, so the driver can find you quickly. Some streets are narrow or restricted, so the driver may wait on the nearest main road. If you cannot see the car, call or WhatsApp us and we will put you in touch.
Arriving at Gatwick and heading to Shoreditch
If you are landing at Gatwick and staying in Shoreditch, the driver meets you in arrivals with a name sign and drops you at the door. We track your flight, so a delay is covered at no extra cost. It is much easier than finding your way across London with your cases on your first night.
Choosing your vehicle
A saloon carries three passengers and three large cases, which is enough for most couples. An estate takes four people and four cases. A people carrier takes six people and five cases, at £149. For a more comfortable ride for a small group, the executive minivan, a Mercedes V-Class or similar, seats six for £198. Mention bikes, instruments, camera kit or extra luggage when you book, so we send a vehicle with room.
Musicians, crews and creatives
Shoreditch is home to many musicians, photographers and production crews who fly with equipment. Flight cases, tripods and instruments take up space, so tell us what you are carrying. The 8-seater minivan has plenty of room for kit as well as passengers. A larger vehicle is often cheaper than two cars, and the gear stays together.
Accessibility
If anyone travelling uses a wheelchair or needs extra help, mention it when you book. We will send a suitable vehicle and allow extra time.
Our drivers
All Esskay Cars drivers are licensed private hire drivers, insured and DBS-checked. They know central and south London well, and they choose the quickest route out of the city on the day. Because your fare is fixed, the route and the traffic do not change the price.
Groups
For groups, such as friends heading to a festival or a stag weekend abroad, or a company team off to a conference, the 8-seater minivan is £163 and the 16-seater minibus £404. Everyone travels together and arrives at check-in at the same time.
Is it worth it compared with an app cab?
App-based cabs can be cheaper at quiet times, but prices often jump early in the morning, late at night and when it rains, which is exactly when many people head for Gatwick. Our price is fixed when you book, so you know exactly what the trip will cost, with the airport charge included. The car is booked in advance, so you are not waiting for a driver to accept the job at 3am.
