Fixed price · Pay your driver · Secure booking

A taxi from Gatwick to Luton Airport with Esskay Cars starts at £117 in a saloon. That is a fixed fare for the whole car, including the airport charges at both ends. Your driver meets you in Gatwick arrivals and takes you round the M25 and up the M1 to the terminal at Luton. There are no changes, no luggage on trains, and no waiting around for a coach.

Luton is a base for several low-cost airlines, so this route is popular with travellers who land at Gatwick and connect onto a short-haul flight. It is also used by people living in Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire who have flown home into Gatwick. Others have had a flight changed at short notice and need to get from one airport to the other quickly.

How long does it take?

The drive is roughly 70 miles. It goes north-west on the M25 from Junction 7, past the Heathrow junctions, and on to the M1 at Junction 21. Then it is up the M1 to Junction 10 for the airport. Luton Airport sits on a hill on the east side of the town. The last part of the drive is on the airport approach road, which can be slow at peak departure times.

When you travel Typical journey time
Early morning or late evening 1 hour 10 minutes to 1 hour 20 minutes
Weekday off-peak 1 hour 25 minutes to 1 hour 40 minutes
Weekday rush hour 1 hour 45 minutes to 2 hours 15 minutes
Friday afternoon or holiday weekends Up to 2 hours 30 minutes

The busiest stretches are the M25 between Junctions 10 and 16, around the M3, M4 and M40 junctions, and the M1 near Watford. If there is a serious hold-up, drivers can use the A41 or the M40 and A5 instead.

Making a connection at Luton

With separate tickets, you are responsible for making your onward flight, so build in a safe margin. We suggest at least four and a half hours from landing at Gatwick to departing Luton with checked bags. With cabin bags only, allow about three and a half hours. Luton’s security area can get busy between 5am and 8am and on Friday afternoons. Some low-cost airlines also close their bag drop a full hour before departure.

Your pickup at Gatwick

  1. Book with your flight number, so we can track your landing.
  2. After baggage reclaim, come out into the North or South Terminal arrivals hall.
  3. Your driver is waiting with your name on a sign.
  4. They help with your bags and walk you to the car in the short stay car park.
  5. If you need us, call 0207 8400 344 or WhatsApp 020 3355 8186.

Dropping you at Luton

At Luton, the drop-off area is right outside the terminal building. Cars there pay a drop-off charge, which is already in our fare. The terminal is compact, so it is only a few minutes’ walk from the car to check-in. If you are staying at an airport hotel the night before, give us the hotel name and we will drop you at the door.

The return trip: Luton to Gatwick

We run the route the other way too, at £124 in a saloon. The driver tracks your flight into Luton and meets you inside arrivals. This works well for anyone who flew out from Luton but has a connection or a car parked at Gatwick.

Choosing your vehicle

For one or two people, a saloon has room for three large cases. An estate fits four people with four cases, which suits most families. Groups of five or six should book a people carrier, and the 8-seater minivan takes eight passengers and eight large cases at £174. For bigger parties, the 12-seater and 16-seater minibuses carry everyone in one vehicle, with one driver and one fixed price.

Public transport alternatives

There is no direct train. By rail, you would take Thameslink from Gatwick through central London to Luton Airport Parkway, then the DART shuttle up to the terminal. Thameslink does run on that line, so it can be done without changing in London. But it takes around two hours, and the trains are busy at peak times, with no guaranteed space for big cases. Coaches between the airports exist but are infrequent. For travellers with heavy luggage, a fixed-fare car is simpler and more predictable.

When a flight is moved to another airport

Some of our bookings on this route come at short notice: a flight is cancelled or diverted, and the airline rebooks you from Luton instead of Gatwick. If that happens, call or WhatsApp us with the new flight time. We will tell you straight away whether we have a car and driver available, and give you the fixed price before you commit. Book the return leg separately once your plans are settled.

Living near Luton and flying from Gatwick

The same applies in reverse. Many people in Luton, Dunstable, Harpenden, St Albans and Hitchin fly from Gatwick because their airline or destination is only served there. We collect from home addresses across Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire for Gatwick flights. Put your home address in the booking form and you will get a fixed price for the door-to-terminal trip. You could also take Thameslink to Gatwick, which is direct from Luton Airport Parkway. But for early flights or a family with suitcases, being picked up at home is far easier.

Overnight and early starts

We drive this route at any hour. Overnight, the roads are quiet and the journey is at its quickest, often well under an hour and a half. The fare does not go up at night or at weekends. If you are landing late and flying early next morning, some travellers prefer to stay at a Luton airport hotel. Give us the hotel name and the driver will take you straight there.

What your fare covers

  • Meet and greet inside Gatwick arrivals.
  • Flight monitoring at no extra cost.
  • Airport parking and drop-off charges.
  • Help with luggage.
  • A fixed price whatever the traffic does.

Business travellers
