How much is a taxi from Chelsea to Gatwick?

A saloon costs £98, an estate £110 and a people carrier £127. All fares are one way and fixed per vehicle.

These fares came from our booking system on 24 October 2026 for a weekday transfer. Enter your exact address and time in the booking form for your quote. Unlike a metered black cab, the price does not rise if the A23 or M23 is slow.

Vehicle Passengers / large cases One way fare
Saloon (Toyota Prius) 3 / 3 £98
Estate (Skoda Octavia) 4 / 4 £110
Executive (Mercedes E-Class) 3 / 2 £127
People carrier 6 / 5 £127
8-seater minivan 8 / 8 £148
Executive minivan (Mercedes V-Class) 6 / 6 £179
12-seater minibus 12 / 10 £304
16-seater minibus 16 / 14 £361

How long does the drive take?

Usually 60 to 80 minutes. Allow up to an hour and 45 minutes in the weekday rush hour.

From Chelsea, drivers cross the river at Battersea, Albert or Wandsworth Bridge and head south. The usual roads are the A23 through Streatham and Croydon, or the A3 and A217 to the M25 and M23. Which is quicker depends on the time of day. Early morning runs are often close to an hour. Weekday evenings and Friday afternoons are the slowest times, so leave extra time if your flight is in the evening.

Which terminal will I be dropped at?

The one your airline uses. Tell us the terminal or flight number, and the driver takes you straight there.

Gatwick has two terminals, North and South, linked by a free shuttle train. Easyjet, for example, uses both, so check your booking. If you are unsure, give us the flight number and the driver will check before you arrive. Both drop-off zones are in front of the terminal buildings, close to check-in.

Is a taxi better than the Gatwick Express from Chelsea?

With luggage, or for two or more people, a taxi is usually easier. The Gatwick Express runs from Victoria, so you would still need to get from Chelsea to Victoria first.

The train is quick once you are on it, but you would need a bus, Tube or taxi to Victoria with your bags. Then there is the walk through the station and on to the platform. For a family or a group, separate rail tickets can add up to more than a shared car. A taxi from your front door means no changes and no carrying cases on the Underground.

When should I leave Chelsea for my flight?

For a European flight, leave about three hours before departure. For long-haul, leave about four hours before.

That allows for London traffic, check-in and security. If your flight is during the evening peak, add another 30 minutes. Tell us your departure time and we will suggest a pick-up time.

Can you collect me from Gatwick and bring me back to Chelsea?

Yes. Your driver tracks the flight and meets you in the arrivals hall at the right terminal with a name sign.

Include your flight number when you book. If the flight lands early or late, the pick-up moves with it. The fare back to Chelsea is the same fixed price, with no extra charge for a delayed flight.

Do you offer executive cars from Chelsea?

Yes. The Mercedes E-Class costs £127 and the Mercedes V-Class £179 to Gatwick.

Executive cars suit business trips and anyone who wants a quieter, more comfortable ride. The E-Class takes three passengers with two cases. The V-Class seats six with six cases and works well for families who want extra room or for a small group of colleagues.

Is a fixed-fare taxi cheaper than a black cab from Chelsea to Gatwick?

Usually, yes. A black cab runs on the meter, and on a journey this long the fare depends heavily on traffic.

With a pre-booked car, the price is agreed before you leave. That matters most on slow days, when a metered cab keeps counting while you sit in traffic in Streatham or Croydon. Our fare also covers the whole vehicle, so it stays the same whether one person travels or four.

Is it cheaper to fly from Heathrow than Gatwick from Chelsea?

By taxi, yes. Heathrow is closer to Chelsea, so the fare is lower.

Chelsea to Saloon Estate People carrier Typical time
Heathrow £71 £79 £90 40 to 60 minutes
Gatwick £98 £110 £127 60 to 80 minutes

If you can choose your airport, compare the ticket price and the taxi fare together. Sometimes a cheaper flight from Gatwick still works out better overall.

What does the fare include?

The vehicle, driver, fuel, the standard route and the Gatwick drop-off charge.

For pick-ups at Gatwick, the quote allows for the time the driver spends parked while you collect your bags. Extras such as child seats, an additional stop or a return trip are added in the booking form, and the full price is shown before you confirm. There are no hidden charges added on the day.

Can I book child seats?

Yes. Choose a baby seat, child seat or booster in the booking form and give each child’s age.

The driver fits the seat before setting off. If you are bringing your own, tell us so the driver allows a few extra minutes at the pick-up.

Do you run night and early morning transfers?

Yes. We work 24 hours a day, every day, at the same fixed prices.

Gatwick has many early departures, and the first trains from Victoria may not get you there in time. A pre-booked car can collect you from Chelsea at 3am or 4am without any surcharge.

Do you pick up from hotels and areas near Chelsea?

Yes. We collect from hotels in Chelsea, Knightsbridge, South Kensington, Belgravia, Pimlico, Fulham and Battersea.

Give the hotel name and we will meet you at the entrance or in the lobby. Fares from neighbouring areas are close to the Chelsea price, and the booking form shows the exact figure for your address. For trips the other way, from the airport to a Chelsea hotel, the driver meets you inside the terminal.

Which vehicle fits my luggage?

A saloon holds three large cases, an estate four, a people carrier five, and the 8-seater minivan eight.

Long-haul travellers often carry more than they expect, especially on the way home. If you have golf clubs, ski bags or a pushchair, book one size up. For a group heading off together, the 12 and 16-seater minibuses cost £304 and £361 to Gatwick, which keeps everyone in one vehicle.

What if my flight is delayed or diverted?

The driver follows your flight and waits for the actual landing time.

If a flight bound for Gatwick is diverted to another airport, call us on 0207 8400 344 and we will move the pick-up.
